Op-Ed Calls For Mandatory Time Of Use Pricing for Texas Retail Electric Providers

February 21,2017

In an op-ed published in the Houston Chronicle, frequent electricity industry commenter Tom Schmal has again called for the Texas PUC to mandate that retail electric providers offer contracts that track the "real-time" price of power

Schmal also called for the elimination of alleged "roadblocks" -- which were not specifically identified -- to customers' sale of excess generation.

Schmal has previously called for mandated REP pricing that mirrors wholesale real-time conditions, including proposing "standardized" contracts for such purposes, and has also filed comments with the PUCT on the subject of peak pricing.
