Claim: Retail Supplier Adds Arbitration Clause To Contract, After Class Action Suit Filed
December 30,2016
Lawyers representing plaintiffs in a class action suit against Electricity Maine claim that Electricity Maine has newly added a clause to its Maine contracts requiring disputes to be addressed through arbitration, the Bangor Daily News reports
The plaintiffs' lawyers allege that the clause was added specifically in response to the suit, the Bangor Daily News reports
An attorney representing Spark Energy, which recently acquired Electricity Maine, was quoted by the Bangor Daily News as stating that the clause is a standard term, and was included in prior Electricity Maine contracts prior to the filing of the suit, and was not added in response to the suit.
