PURA Won't Open Investigation of Supplier, Theft Suspects Were Not Selling On Supplier's Behalf
December 29,2016
The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority declined a request from the Office of Consumer Counsel to open an investigation of Starion Energy as a result of a media report about alleged doorstep thefts by individuals who allegedly claimed to be selling on behalf of certain companies.
As previously reported (see story), while a police report only cited Comcast as one of the companies the individuals were alleged to have cited to police, local media reports said that the individuals were also alleged to have claimed that they were selling for Starion Energy
Starion Energy said that the individuals were not employees, were not selling on behalf of the company, and noted that the police report did not state the individuals ever claimed to be selling on behalf of Starion.
OCC, however, asked PURA to investigate the matter further.
After receiving a response from Starion, PURA declined to open a formal investigation.
"Based on police reports subsequently filed by Starion in response to OCC’s motion, there is no mention of Starion in the police reports. Starion has confirmed that the individuals arrested were not conducting business on behalf of Starion and that it was not conducting door-to-door marketing in West Hartford for nearly 30 days prior to the incident. The Authority sees no need to reopen or establish a new docket at this time," PURA said
