Customers At Texas Muni Fed Up With High Rates, Petition for "Competitive" Prices

October 19,2016

A customer at the City of Bowie, Texas's municipal electric utility has launched a petition calling for "competitive" rates, as the customer called the muni's all-in rate in excess of 15¢/kWh, "ridiculous," given rates in the competitive market that are one-third of the muni's rate, The Bowie News reports (via the Times Record News)

Bowie, population 5,200, is located within ERCOT

The Bowie News further notes that surrounding municipal electric utilities have non-competitive rates, with Seymour at $0.1505/kWh; Bridgeport at $0.1409/kWh; and Sanger at $0.1381/kWh.
