Texas Retail Provider Sued, As Door-to-Door Agents Allege They Were Not Compensated
July 22,2016
Two plaintiffs have filed a lawsuit against Reliant Energy, alleging they worked for Reliant as door-to-door agents in the summer of 2015 but were not paid
Reliant, whose full statement is below, confirmed to RetailEnergyX.com that the plaintiffs were not employees of Reliant, but instead worked for a third-party vendor
Plaintiffs allege that they were to be paid $100 for every residence that switched, but alleged that they were not paid.
The lawsuit was filed in Dallas County Court at Law No. 4.
Reliant issued the following statement to RetailEnergyX.com:
"We are committed to treating our employees and business partners with respect, and that includes paying them for services rendered. The individuals named in this lawsuit did not contact us with their complaints prior to filing suit and issuing their press release. We have not yet been served with the suit and are not familiar with the circumstances around these allegations, except to note that Reliant’s door-to-door sales staff are contracted through outside vendors. Our contracts require those vendors to adhere to the highest standards under the law. We have begun looking into the matter and will evaluate the facts as we are able to collect them."
