The over-hyped Tesla master plan (v2.0) contains a vision for Tesla to further move into energy services, though, unsurprisingly, is scant on details.

The master plan envisions, "creat[ing] a smoothly integrated and beautiful solar-roof-with-battery product that just works, empowering the individual as their own utility ... One ordering experience, one installation, one service contact, one phone app."

Tesla claimed that it can't reach this vision if Tesla and SolarCity are different companies, defending the proposed acquisition of SolarCity which has been criticized by some investors

"Now that Tesla is ready to scale Powerwall [home storage] and SolarCity is ready to provide highly differentiated solar, the time has come to bring them together," Tesla said
