Southern Company Completes AGL Merger, Bringing Retail Suppliers Under Southern Ownership
July 01,2016
Southern Company and AGL Resources today announced the completion of their previously reported merger
The merger brings into Southern's ownership retail suppliers which AGL Resources owns outright or in which AGL currently owns a large majority stake, such as SouthStar Energy Services, Georgia Natural Gas, and other brands, as well as a home protection and repair company.
Also notable is that under a previously reported merger settlement in Illinois, AGL's Nicor Advanced Energy retail supply unit has agreed to cease use of the Nicor brand name
Neither Prairie Point Energy, L.L.C. d/b/a Nicor Advanced Energy LLC (NAE) nor Nicor Solutions, L.L.C. (NiSol), a subsidiary of SouthStar Energy Services LLC, will use the Nicor name or logo to conduct business in Illinois beyond December 31, 2017
Under the agreement, Nicor Advanced Energy will be required to market any gas offers under a new name by Jan. 1, 2018. The settlement also covers Nicor Solutions, which has offered a fixed-bill product in Northern Illinois.
Southern Company also acquires AGL utilities offering retail choice in Georgia (AGL), Illinois (Nicor), Florida (Florida City Gas), and New Jersey (Elizabethtown Gas), and additional AGL natural gas utilities offering transportation programs.
