Candidates Backed By Texans for Affordable Electric Rates Win Pedernales Electric Co-op Seats
June 21,2016
Two candidates supported by Texans for Affordable Electric Rates have won election as director at Pedernales Electric Cooperative
PEC members re-elected James Oakley, an incumbent, and elected Jim Powers, who did not face opposition
Oakley had made statements during this election cycle as being opposed to choice. Powers had made statements as being open to consideration of the issue. However, both were supported by Texans for Affordable Electric Rates, which, according to the American-Statesman, has previously endorsed candidates who backed retail choice
Indeed, the endorsements by Texans for Affordable Electric Rates had led to speculation on pectruthwatch.com, in a guest post attributed to William Boggs, former PEC Director, about such endorsed candidates' true position on choice
While re-elected, Oakley did not retain his position as board president, as Emily Pataki was elected president by board members
