Reuters: Apple Explores EV Charging Business; NRG Comment Fuels Speculation

May 26,2016

Reuters reported exclusively that Apple is exploring the electric vehicle charging business, and has had discussions with companies in the EV charging station business

In particular, Reuters reported that while several EV charging companies declined to comment on any potential interaction with Apple, "Arun Banskota, president of NRG Energy Inc's electric vehicle charging business, EVgo, did not respond directly to questions about Apple, but said repeatedly that his company was 'in discussions with every manufacturer of today and every potential manufacturer of tomorrow,'" leading to speculation concerning what companies NRG may have had discussions with

While NRG has agreed to sell a majority stake in its EVgo business to Vision Ridge Partners for total consideration of approximately $50 million, NRG is retaining a "significant" minority interest in the EV business
