When Will Florida Open Electric Choice? Here’s What A PSC Commissioner Says

May 01,2014

When is retail electric choice coming to Florida, which currently has various forms of natural gas unbundling and choice?

The short answer is "not this year," Lisa Polak Edgar told the National Energy Marketers Association annual restructuring conference.

But the longer answer, and more important answer, is this, Edgar said:

"Retail competition would come to Florida, and potentially the Southeast and other regions, when it is demonstrated clearly and convincingly that it is in our consumers' best interest, and that it is in the best interest of our state, and our state's future."
