Parent of Retail Supplier To Install Solar At Nearly 100 Whole Foods Locations
March 08,2016
Whole Foods announced that it is installing solar at nearly 100 of its stores and other properties
Whole Foods selected NRG Energy to install rooftop solar at up to 84 Whole Foods stores and distribution centers across 9 states. When completed and determined by final negotiations and analysis, the portfolio of solar projects has the potential to generate up to 13.8 megawatts (MW) of solar power, the companies said
Separately, Whole Foods selected SolarCity to deliver solar power services for an undisclosed number of stores across the Whole Foods Market portfolio, in locations such as Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
SolarCity's press release notes that, "in total", Whole Foods plans to retrofit up to 100 stores with rooftop solar, but based on the language, it is not believed that such total reflects solely SolarCity's installations.
SolarCity's press release also notes that Direct Energy Business has a relationship with Whole Foods Market for some of Whole Foods' stores, and that solar is integrated into that strategy as part of a collaboration to provide solar electricity directly to businesses through a dedicated investment fund established by Direct Energy and SolarCity
