"Customer Choice" Sought at El Paso Electric

March 03,2016

A "customer choice" rate for El Paso Electric's New Mexico customers is being sought by certain stakeholders, and a former state senator has joined the calls for the program

The program would not be true customer choice, in terms of a fully competitive retail market, but would allow EPE residential customers to join an aggregation that, through control of smart thermostats, allows residential customers to receive similar rates to those enjoyed by large interruptible customers.

The program has been championed by a HVAC business owner who has previously attempted to introduce a modicum of customer choice at EPE's Texas territory
