DMN Watchdog Hits PowerToChoose Copycat Sites, 1¢ Power

February 08,2016

Dave Lieber, Watchdog for The Dallas Morning News, opines on the emergence of Texas electricity shopping websites which attempt to grab customers seeking the state's official Power to Choose site, whether through use of powertochoose as part of the domain name, or through the use of google ads or search engine optimization keywords.

RetailEnergyX.com first reported on such sites last year, noting a proposed Texas bill, which did not pass, appeared to prohibit such imitations of the official Power to Choose site

Lieber also once again knocks the tailored pricing on the Power to Choose site, which has again hit 1¢/kWh, claiming that "nobody" actually pays 1¢/kWh under the plans

Lieber also blasts the 1¢/kWh plans as being offered by "unknown" companies. Currently, in the Oncor service area, 1¢/kWh plans are offered by, among others, Gexa Energy and Amigo Energy, which have been mainstays of the Texas market since it opened more than a decade ago
