NextEra Continuing To Explore Sales of Merchant Power Plants

January 29,2016

Though not a surprise given similar comments over the past several earnings conference calls, NextEra Energy executives affirmed yesterday in reporting earnings that the company continues to explore potential sales of merchant power plants

Addressing an analyst's question about the potential to "recycle" capital as the company was able to do through the recent sale of its Lamar and Forney power plants in Texas, John Ketchum, NextEra Senior Vice President for Finance, said that there are, "recycling opportunities available in our merchant generation portfolio that we will continue to explore similar to what we did with the Lamar-Forney transaction back in 2015."

"Everything we have is always for sale, and if there is an opportunity to sell something that's accretive to our earnings going forward and makes sense from a strategic standpoint, we're going to sell it," NextEra CEO Jim Robo added
