Retail Energy Solicitors Arrested For Drug, Traffic Violations

October 14,2015

Three retail energy sales agents were arrested by Geneseo, NY police for, "traffic, drug and court violations," after residents complained about their sales tactics, the Genesee Sun reports

The agents had registered as solicitors with Geneseo as soliciting for Family Energy, though the Genesee Sun's report is not clear as to whether the solicitations which prompted the complaints were specifically for service from Family Energy

Family Energy provided the following statement to RetailEnergyX.com:

"Family Energy strives to ensure its sales representatives adhere to the highest standards of conduct. We engage the services of hundreds of independently contracted sales representatives, who undergo rigorous training, testing and compliance requirements. Family Energy contracts with thousands of customers each week, and provides natural gas and electricity services to hundreds of thousands of customers throughout the State of New York.

"Prior to becoming an active sales representative, each sales representative must pass a 3rd party independent background check. Our Compliance Code of Conduct also requires that all representatives meet all sales and licensing requirements with the local municipality in which they intend to market, to both ensure any required licensing is completed, and to ensure city officials are aware that Family Energy sales representatives intend to market in that territory.

"With respect to the issue that arose in Geneseo, the sales representatives had attended City Hall as required, and ensured that they were permitted to market in the area. While Ronald Blair’s vehicle was stopped regarding his vehicle registration, to the best of our knowledge, the issue involving the plating and insurance of his vehicle has since been resolved. In regards to Raphael Seabury, who allegedly failed to appear when summoned to court, it is our understanding the matter was related to an unpaid fine. Family Energy has terminated our business relationship with Dashawn Gill [ed note: who was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana per the Genesee Sun's report], as a result of our strict Compliance policies.

"Family Energy takes all of these matters seriously, and we are continuing to investigate the issues surrounding this incident. No complaints have been received by our Customer Service department or via the Public Service Commission regarding the marketing activities of these individuals in the town of Geneseo."
