Op-ed: If Muni Aggregation Can’t Get Approval Right, How Can It Competently Manage Electric Supply?
October 06,2015
The Daily Hampshire (MA) Gazette recently published an editorial concerning the DPU's rejection of the Hampshire Council of Governments municipal aggregation plans, questioning how successful the aggregations would have been if the administrators can't even get the administrative approval process right.
As previously reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, the DPU rejected 35 municipal aggregation plans that were part of the Hampshire Council of Governments group, citing "numerous misrepresentations" to citizens, such as promising savings when no savings guarantee exists
The Gazette said that this, "was the first time the DPU denied a municipal cooperative electricity buying plan." While we do not independently aver to that statistic, it is undeniable that any rejections are rare.
This led the Gazette to conclude that, "it does appear that neither the Hampshire Council nor the communities it was representing were on the ball when it came to the entire procedure. And if this was true, then it questions just how well the plan would be run had it been OK’d."
