AEP Ohio, Dynegy Continue War of Words Over PPAs

September 24,2015

AEP Ohio and Dynegy continue to trade barbs in the press concerning AEP Ohio's application for ratepayer-backed contracts between AEP Ohio utility customers and affiliated merchant generation

Regarding Dynegy, AEP Ohio President Pablo Vegas told Tom Knox of Columbus Business First in an interview that, "They're not looking out for the long-term interests of Ohio. They're not headquartered in Ohio. They don't really support the communities or are involved in Ohio in any which way, shape or form. I think they're a different entity with different interests and I don't think they're looking out for Ohio's interests."

Knox reported that Dynegy CEO Bob Flexon responded via email stating, "Pablo – you insult the PUCO? Here's the punch line, we don't need to subsidize your inefficient, outdated plants. You may not like three years [a modified time for similar FirstEnergy PPAs recommended by PUCO Staff] but I wouldn't give you three days."

Dynegy further said in a statement that they, "have already invested and continue to invest in our Ohio plants," and told RetailEnergyX.com that, "Dynegy may not be headquartered in Ohio, but we do have a large regional office in Cincinnati. We have more than 450 employees who live and work in Ohio, and we serve more than 120,000 customers in that state"
