Market Response: More Texas REPs Offering Plans Which Do Not Penalize Conservation

July 20,2015

The Dallas Morning News reports that, in the wake of controversy during the legislative session, more Texas retail electric providers are offering plans which do not penalize conservation with minimum usage fees, with some REPs even paying customers bonuses for lower usage

In particular, the Dallas Morning News cites a new product from Infinite Energy which pays the customer a $9.95 credit for use under 1,000 kWh in a month, along with existing plans from Gexa and Reliant

Although the Morning News calls these plans "outliers," the Houston Chronicle previously reported that about a third of the Houston-area retail providers the Chronicle examined listed no plans containing penalties or credits based on power use
