D.C. Government Inks PPA

July 17,2015

District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Iberdrola Renewables, LLC that will supply 35 percent of the District government’s electricity with wind power.

Under the PPA, the Department of General Services (DGS), which manages the District’s portfolio of government buildings, will purchase the entire output of Iberdrola’s South Chestnut 46-megawatt (MW) wind farm in southwestern Pennsylvania. This will supply Washington with approximately 125,000 MW hours of electricity every year

The District government will continue to use RECs to offset the remainder of its electricity needs.
