Report: Massachusetts Hydropower Long-Term Contracting Bill Gains Key Support
April 09,2014
A bill which would require the Massachusetts electric utilities to procure hydropower generation under long-term contracts, with unpredictable impacts on default service and the retail market, has gained key support from environmental groups, the Boston Business Journal reports
Consistent with other long-term contracting statutes in Massachusetts, the bill, H3968, would provide the utility with discretion as to how to dispose of any contracted power -- either selling the power in the market, or using it to serve default service load.
The Boston Business Journal now reports that the New England Clean Energy Council is supporting the bill, after receiving concessions that the bill will include contracting for non-hydro renewable energy as well. The BBJ notes that language for a revised bill has not been filed yet
