Texas REP Announces It Will Cease Billing CenterPoint AMS Surcharge

June 04,2015

Texas retail electric provider Discount Power announced that it began discontinuing the Advanced Metering System (AMS) surcharge to all residential customers in the CenterPoint TDU service area effective June 1, 2015, coincident with the end of the residential AMS surcharge.

While, as reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, the CenterPoint AMS surcharge ceased for residential customers on June 1, Discount Power's announcement is notable since REPs, depending on the product and pricing plan, do not necessarily have to adjust their rates to reflect their cessation of payment of the charge to CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric -- particularly in bundled fixed pricing that does not specifically break-out TDU charges.
