CUB Pushing for Stiffer Penalties for "Impersonation" of Utility
May 28,2015
The Illinois Citizens Utility Board is urging consumers to contact their legislators to address recent utility scams.
While the CUB call to action mostly stems from scams in which a con artist poses as a utility worker threatening disconnection of service unless payment is made immediately, CUB's proposed solutions impact the retail energy sales business as it implicates impersonation of utility representatives, and some unscrupulous sales agents may continue to misrepresent themselves as being associated with the utility.
Specifically, CUB encourages consumers to urge lawmakers to consider, "stiffer penalties for impersonation," of the utility.
