Warren Buffett's BHE Asking Texas Lawmakers To OK Building 10 GW Of Regulated Generation In ERCOT

March 26,2021

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Energy has proposed to Texas lawmakers an $8.3 billion plan that would see Berkshire Hathaway Energy be paid, under cost of service & rate of return regulation, for the construction of about 10 GW of gas-fired generation in ERCOT, with such generation only dispatched during emergencies, at the direction of ERCOT, the Texas Tribune reported

From the information disclosed about the proposal, the proposal would not have a direct impact on the retail market; however, cost recovery would occur through customer power bills, meaning REPs would need to reflect any such costs in their pricing.
