Report: Some Texas REP Customers Seeing Electric Bills As High As '$17k' In Wake Of Winter Storm
February 19,2021
WFAA-Dallas reports on customers of Griddy seeing high bills as a result of the Texas winter storm and scarcity pricing, as expected due to its wholesale pass-through product
One customer, with 3 properties, saw a bill of $17,000
As previously noted, Griddy had been encouraging customers to switch to other REPs, without penalty, but many REPs were not enrolling new customers or offered a later start date
Griddy direct WFAA to a statement on Griddy's website (click here) which, among other things, noted that the PUC ordered an administrative adder which increased the price during load shed, and further said (as noted in a story on EnergyChoiceMatters.com today) that such adder should have been eliminated when load shed ended the morning of Feb. 18
Griddy said of fighting against the administrative wholesale prices, "We intend to fight this for, and alongside, our customers for equity and accountability – to reveal why such price increases were allowed to happen as millions of Texans went without power. More to come."
