"Recall CPS": San Antonio Residents Upset With Utility's Rate Structure
November 02,2020
The San Antonio (Texas) Express-News reports on dissatisfaction with some residential customers at municipal utility CPS Energy concerning their electric rates, rate structure, and burden versus C&I rates, which have prompted some residents to launch a "Recall CPS" effort
Citing "Recall CPS" leadership, the Express-News reports, "The goal ... is for customers to have more say over the utility’s operations and to shift more of the cost away from low-income residents to the businesses and households that consume the most power."
Citing EIA data, the Express-News reported that CPS Energy residential customers paid an average of 10.7 cents per kWh in 2019.
Currently on Power to Choose in the CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric Service Area, there are multiple well-capitalized REPs offering residential service at a rate of 7.2¢/kWh for 1,000 kWh, through no-gimmick (no minimum usage, etc.) 12-month fixed plans
