Group Urges Southeast States To Investigate "Electricity Market Reform", Notes Savings From RTO
August 25,2020
Energy Innovation, GridLab, and Vibrant Clean Energy released a report which said that establishing a southeast RTO covering the North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi (non-MISO area), and Alabama region would result in $384 billion in cumulative economic savings from 2025 through 2040, with rates 23 percent lower than today’s costs in 2040.
The study does not address retail choice
A companion document from Energy Innovation concerning the study recommends that, "Each state legislature or public utility commission should open investigations to examine the feasibility and potential benefits of electricity market reform, much like North Carolina has done and South Carolina is planning to do."
