LP&L Spox Still Says Muni Will Implement Retail Electric Choice "As Soon As Practicable"
June 02,2020
In a story concerning Lubbock Power & Light's transition to ERCOT, KCBD-11 quoted LP&L spokesperson Matt Rose as stating that, after initially moving into ERCOT as a Non-Opt- In-Entity (NOIE), LP&L will, "move towards opting into the competitive market as soon as practicable."
However, Rose also said, "It’s something that we’ve been studying. It’s something that we are looking very closely at."
The use of the language "as soon as is practicable" in describing LP&L's intent to implement retail choice has also been used previously
Concerning retail choice, Rose was quoted by KCBD as stating, "[City] Council has and the Electric Utility Board have signed resolutions of intent. Once we get into ERCOT we will move towards opting into the competitive market as soon as practicable. It won’t happen on day one, just because there are a lot of things that have to happen, decisions and also structural things. It’s something that we’ve been studying. It’s something that we are looking very closely at. There is a desire by the EUB and the Council to move in that direction. If that comes to be, we would be the first city in the state of Texas to voluntarily opt into the competitive market, since it was brought about in 1999."
