The Massachusetts DPU opened an inquiry into establishing policies and practices regarding customer assistance and ratemaking measures for electric and gas companies in response to the effects of the novel coronavirus (“COVID-19”) pandemic.

The Department also established a Customer Assistance and Ratemaking Working Group (“Working Group”) to assist the Department in establishing appropriate policies and practices.

While nothing in the DPU's order specifically implicated retail electric suppliers, issues impacting the retail market (such as uncollectibles, basic service uncollectibles deferrals, etc) may arise in the case

New York City Petition

Separately, the City of New York petitioned the New York PSC for various customer relief due to COVID, including "financial assistance."

Again, while nothing in the City's petition specifically implicated retail electric suppliers, issues impacting the retail market (including customer eligibility for rate relief) may arise
