Sempra VP (Oncor Parent): "Jury’s Still Out" On Need For Utility Ownership Of EV Charging Stations

January 16,2020

In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Brian Lloyd, Regional Vice President - External Affairs at Sempra Energy, the parent of Oncor, said that the "jury’s still out" on whether utilities need to own electric vehicle charging stations

In the interview, Lloyd noted the need for grid upgrades from EV load, and further said, "But whether or not the utilities need to own the end-use customer station, I think jury’s still out on that."

Lloyd also noted that lawmakers and the PUC continue to "struggle" with determining the role for utilities with respect to electricity storage
