Local Pol Pushing For State Law To Authorize Opt-out Municipal Aggregation

December 09,2019

Route 1 Reporter reports that Hyattsville (Maryland) City Councilor Danny Schaible is urging the Council to back an expected state legislative proposal to allow opt-out municipal electric aggregation in Maryland

A bill authorizing opt-out municipal aggregation was introduced last year but did not advance from committee. A similar bill is expected to be introduced in the upcoming session

Any such bill will come amid heightened scrutiny of the Maryland retail energy market, with several ongoing complaint cases at the PSC addressing supplier marketing practices (see story here)
