Growing U.K. Retail Supplier Buys Stake In Renewable Exchange

U.K. retail energy supplier OVO Energy has acquired a minority stake in U.K.-based Renewable Exchange, a digital platform and marketplace for PPAs to connect generators and customers

Renewable Exchange will use the investment to accelerate development of its digital Power Purchase Agreement market platform, which connects distributed energy generators with potential buyers.

Renewable Exchange has 30 offtakers, with over 700 generators and 1.1 GW of installed capacity represented

As previously reported, OVO Energy has agreed to acquire SSE’s household energy supply and related services business (SSE Energy Services) in the U.K. for £500 million, comprising £400 million in cash and £100 million in loan notes. SSE Energy Services serves 3.5 million household customers in Great Britain
