Shell Subsidiary Selected By Ford To Lead Buildout Of FordPass EV Charging Network
October 17,2019
Greenlots, a member of the Shell Group and a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions, announced today that it has led the buildout of the FordPass Charging Network, which the company said is currently the largest public charging network of any automotive manufacturer.
The program, starting in 2020, will allow future Ford all-electric drivers to charge seamlessly across all the major charging networks in the U.S. and select regions in Canada, Greenlots said.
Drivers who are a part of the program will also be able to access chargers from multiple EV charging networks through the FordPass app, or the vehicle's on-screen dashboard, without needing to sign up separately for individual network apps or memberships. "This has been made possible through Greenlots-led EV driver roaming partnerships in the industry between major charging providers," Greenlots said
Ford said the program will include more than 12,000 places to charge, including fast charging, and more than 35,000 charge plugs
"Ford will work with Greenlots to explore adding additional networks to the FordPass Charging Network in the future for even further coverage," Ford said
While all chargers participating in this program will be networked together for Ford customers, the operation and maintenance of each specific station will remain within the responsibility of each individual infrastructure provider.
Electrify America is among the EV charging providers participating in the program. Electrify America expects to install or have under development approximately 800 total charging station sites with about 3,500 chargers by December 2021. Electrify America will expand to 45 states and the District of Columbia, including two cross-country routes and 29 major metros
Ford also announced the offering of home EV chargers, and Ford has teamed up with Amazon Home Services to offer installation of home charging setups.
