Mayor Urges Residents to "Ignore" Retail Supplier's Solicitations

January 30,2015

WLEA reports that the City of Hornell, NY Mayor Shawn Hogan issued an alert to residents telling them to ignore door-to-door solicitations from IDT Energy, stating that the company was not licensed to conduct such sales in the City.

IDT Energy provided the following statement to RetailEnergyX.com:

"IDT Energy works with independent contractors who market electricity and natural gas supply services on our behalf. All IDT Energy employees and contractors are required to conduct business in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations when marketing our services and are subject to our strictly enforced Zero Tolerance Policy," said Wayne Stoughton, Vice President Customer Service, Regulatory Compliance. "Late last week, we learned that one of our contractors, operating in the Hornell, NY, area, sent a team of salespeople into the field prior to completion of the local permitting process authorizing their activity. Since this is a clear violation of our Zero Tolerance Policy, IDT Energy has terminated the services of this contractor. We offer our sincere apologies to Hornell Mayor Hogan and will continue to work diligently to ensure that all rules, regulations and requirements are met, not only in Hornell, but in all areas we serve."
