Walmart Sues Tesla, Alleging Tesla Rooftop Solar Panels Caused Fires

August 21,2019

The New York Times reports (story here) that Walmart has filed, with the state Supreme Court for New York County, NY, a lawsuit against Tesla's solar business, alleging Tesla (SolarCity) solar installations caused fires on the rooftops of seven stores in California, Maryland, and Ohio

"To state the obvious, properly designed, installed, inspected, and maintained solar systems do not spontaneously combust, and the occurrence of multiple fires involving Tesla’s solar systems is but one unmistakable sign of negligence by Tesla," Walmart alleged in the suit

Walmart alleged that the "chaotic installation" practices of, and inadequate maintenance by, SolarCity caused the fires

Walmart is seeking damages and authorization to remove various Tesla solar installations from its stores.
