E.ON Reports Negative Retail Energy Earnings Impact From U.K. Price Cap, Customer Losses
August 07,2019
E.ON in reporting earnings today said that adjusted EBIT at its Customer Solutions segment (includes retail energy) decreased from €477 million in the first half of 2018 to €240 million this year.
"The decline is primarily attributable to the regulatory price cap in the U.K. market. In addition, margins at this segment’s business in Germany were narrower because higher grid fees could not be passed through to customers until a later time. This will largely balance itself out as the year moves forward owing to price adjustments," the company said
The company reported a loss of 400,000 retail customers in the U.K. during the first half of 2019, but the company said that customer losses stopped in July. Partially offsetting this were more than 100,000 additional customers in Germany and growth in other markets, including 30,000 additional customers in Italy
