Illinois CUB Report Recommends Defaulting EV Charging Load To Time Of Use Supply Rates

March 27,2019

A report concerning proposed policies concerning electric vehicles released by the Illinois Citizens Utility Board calls for states to automatically enroll EV owners in "dynamic" pricing programs for electricity supply, where rates vary depending on the time of day when power is consumed.

The report notes that these rates could apply only to the cost of powering the EV -- other household usage would be billed separately according to whatever pricing plan the customer chooses -- and car owners could opt-out of the program.
