Business Groups Oppose Florida Electric Choice Ballot Initiative

January 25,2019

The Florida Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Florida, which wield considerable influence in Florida, have announced their opposition to a ballot initiative which would require the introduction of electric choice in the state

The business groups warned of increased prices and uncertainty under the proposed ballot initiative, according to The News Service of Florida, via News4Jax

The Miami Herald reported that the petition for the ballot initiative has met the required threshold of 76,632 signatures to advance to a review of its language by the Attorney General and state Supreme Court

A total of 766,000 signatures are required for the measure to appear on the ballot

The proposed ballot initiative, first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, would provide for retail electric choice and "fully competitive" retail and wholesale electric markets
