Florida Electric Choice Ballot Initiative Reports Progress On Required Signatures

January 16,2019

Florida's committee Citizens for Energy Choices has filed more than 60,000 valid petition signatures with a state agency as part of a process to get the group's retail energy choice petition on the 2020 ballot, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reports

The proposed ballot initiative, first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, would provide for retail electric choice and "fully competitive" retail and wholesale electric markets

Some 76,000 signatures are needed for the proposed initiative to proceed to the next step, which is a state Supreme Court review for compliance with certain requirements, such as language and subject matter

A total of 766,000 signatures are required for the measure to appear on the ballot
