Ohio Utilities Report Higher Costs Of RECs, SRECs Than Retail Suppliers
December 18,2018
Staff of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio filed a draft report concerning the RPS program for the year 2016
In the draft, Staff said that the reported average 2016 REC and SREC prices from utilities and competitive retail electric service (CRES) providers required to comply with RPS were as follows:
Ohio EDUs Avg. $/REC
Solar $112.08
Non-Solar $13.99
Ohio CRES
Providers Avg. $/REC
Solar $75.90
Non-Solar $8.16
Staff noted that the costs in the above table are an average of the costs for RECs and S-RECs retired for 2016 compliance. As these RECs and S-RECs may have been purchased several years prior, the costs in the table should not be interpreted as indicative of current market costs, Staff said
Staff noted that long-term contracting for RECs may provide a greater assurance of supply but result in the LSE missing any cost reductions in the spot market
